I’ll Be Patiently Waiting

Zara K. Reed

Poetry Collection • Published July 2026

I’ll be patiently waiting
For the sun to come out
For people who have longed for its light
Even if the night feels endless
And too dark to fight

I’ll be patiently waiting
For the dogs to stop barking so loud
Their echo reaches Rome
Even if they bite the hands
Of those who feed them home

I’ll be patiently waiting
For the cry of an infant
To sound less like fear
Even if its mother is broken
In soul and in career

I’ll be patiently waiting
For smiles to return to those tired faces
Even if they found more pain than peace in visited places

I’ll be patiently waiting
For that girl to break through
In the field of science
Even if she grew up
Surrounded by defiance

I’ll be patiently waiting
For that daydreaming child
To finish their book
Even if no one believes
In them at first look

I’ll be patiently waiting
For the war to finally end
Even if afterwards
They pretend to be friends

I’ll be patiently waiting
For the one deprived of love
To finally know its touch
Even if the world teaches them
To fear it too much

I’ll be patiently waiting
For people to start
Patiently waiting

I’ll be patiently waiting
For people to stop
Just waiting

I’ll be patiently waiting
As long as waiting is all I can do
But I’ll stop waiting
The moment action becomes true
